CAMP “Levante de Almeria” gathers momentum

12.10.2011

CAMP “Levante de Almeria” is currently in its full swing including the participation of stakeholders and other actors in various CAMP events, such as the meetings of the Coastal Council and the Commission. Mr. M. Prem, PAP/RAC Deputy Director, participated at the above meetings that took place at EGMASA and at the Almeria University on 29 September - 1 October 2011.

On 29 September a Steering Committee meeting was organised to discuss the workplan and the budget. A progress report was presented with particular stress on the Coast Day events. With regard to the Sustainable Development Reference Framework (SDRF) as the main output of this CAMP, the concept of the document and its structure were discussed, and the general consensus is that it is well in accordance with the PAP/RAC Guidelines for the preparation of the National ICZM Strategies.

On 30 September a co-ordination meeting was held with the consultants. All the team leaders and members of the team groups presented the progress of each individual activity. The 3rd meeting of the Coastal Council (CC) was convened late in the afternoon of the same day. It was attended by the members of the CC and the representatives of consultants for each of the individual activities, including Mr. S. Bell who is engaged as a consultant for the Imagine workshops. This meeting was followed by the 2nd Imagine workshop.

On 1 October the second day of the Imagine workshop was held and the participants worked on the selection of the indicators and the definition of the sustainable thresholds for each indicator. It was a very productive workshop, and it should be pointed out that the links between the individual activities, especially with the SDRF and Imagine process and results (indicators in particular) are very well established. According to Mr. Bell, this is the first CAMP ever where Imagine is so strongly linked to the project and with such a broad participation. The 3rd Imagine workshop is scheduled for 11-12 November and a Coastal Commission meeting for 14 November 2011.
